On September 23, 2016 YALE Law School hosted Real Women, Real Voices – Where the People Meet the Policy. A dynamic, groundbreaking symposium presented by the National Council of Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls to advocate for the rights of women, girls and families impacted by mass incarceration and the issues and concerns incarcerated women. This multi-panel symposium featured a FAMILY panel that focused on women in families that have been impacted by either having a parent, a husband or son incarcerated. Daughters Ebony Underwood and Kyndia Riley both spoke eloquently on the devastating effects of being part of the carceral state and the toll it has taken on their free lives.
